Still Standing

30 Oct

Last night we endured another storm of sorts…

The storm named Sandy moved through our area.  I was awakened in the early morning hours as the howling wind and driving rain pounded into our house.  I arose several times to assess the status of our home.  All was safe and well on the inside as the outside of our home withstood quite an assault, anchored fast to its foundation.

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. (Mat 7:24-27)

In comparison to how this storm pounded our house, when the storms of life pound on our humanity, our outer shells (body, mind, will and emotions) take quite a beating.  But, if we are anchored to the Rock of Jesus Christ and walking in His ways, our spirits are safe and secure.  We can have peace, hope and security because no storm of life or foe can pluck us from His grasp.

Thank you Peter. Compared to the destruction that occurred along the coast, we are very thankful. As the wind and rain were pounding into our house, that passage of scripture kept coming to my mind.
