It’s OK to Talk About

10 May

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.  Play, smile, think of me…  Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.  (Henry Scott Holland – “What is Death?”)

Shortly after Isaac’s death, we appreciated the advice offered in the article 10 Ways to Help Parents With Grieving Hearts by Ruth Stoecker on the FamilyLife Website.  Idea #6 especially spoke to us:

Say the name of my child. I love to hear it! Remember a story about him and share it with me. Let me talk about him; don’t change the subject. I may tell you the same things over and over and over, but please just be there.

Please do not hesitate to talk or write about Isaac to or around us.  We may laugh or cry – either way, it is good for us to hear about him.  Please don’t think that because we cry it is a bad thing.

Thank you to everyone who has shared a personal story about Isaac with us.  These stories are encouraging and help us in the grieving process.  Do you have a story about Isaac that you would like to share?  If so, please feel free to post a comment.  We would love to hear about him from you.
